Clayton State School
In the Weekly Times on the 17th July 1909 there was quite the spread on the opening of new brick classrooms at Clayton State School.
The history of the school goes back even further to 1865 when a primary school was opened that would serve the Clayton district on the corner of Dandenong Road and Clayton Road. Originally named the Mulgrave Common School No. 734 it was once surrounded by farms and bushland and the children either walked to school or rode to school on horses.
Some time between 1873 and 1878 the school became a state school with a new building opening in 1875.
In 1889 the school changed names to Clayton Road State School and in 1894 the school became an adjunct of Oakleigh State School No. 1601.
In 1901 there was another name change, this time to Clayton State School.
Two new brick classrooms were built in 1909 and judging by the pictures there was quite a celebration held at the time.
The school was renamed Clayton North Primary School in 1970.
The school marked its 150th anniversary in 2015.
