Can I renew items?

You can renew most loans twice, as long as no other library member has reserved them.

You can renew your items in these ways. If items are overdue, you will not be able to renew online.

  • Login to your library account. You need your card and a passcode (PIN). Set up or change the passcode only at the library.
  • Visit your nearest library (remember to bring your library card or some identification with you).
  • Phone any of our branch libraries. Please have your library card number ready.
  • Through the links in reminder emails that we send you if you request this service.

Where can I return my loans?

You can return your loans to any of our branch libraries. You don't need to return them to the branch library you originally borrowed from.

All branch libraries except Mulgrave Library offer overnight chutes, so you can return your loans even when the library is closed.

What if you don't have the item I want?

  • Use the form Suggest a purchase  to ask for your request. You will be required to agree to a reservation charge.
  • You can look for and request the item from other Victorian libraries at this page Request an Inter Library Loan. You will be advised of the reservation charge. The charge is normally the same as you would pay for an item from our library. The item will be delivered to your local branch for you to pick up.

RFID

Visitors to Monash Libraries in February will notice some positive changes as we roll out a new self-serve system to borrow items.

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system allows library members to borrow items themselves including CDs and DVDs. Multiple items can be loaned or returned at the one time, reducing the need for staff to individually scan each item.

Council is introducing the technology to improve customer service by introducing an improved self service system. Our great branch staff service is always available to assist those who need help tracking down items or researching information.
